Governor Kamthorn Ravornsathit, together with police, as well as military and peace-keeping officials, raided several aesthetic clinics on Thursday evening after finding some might have overstated their advertisement claims or used improperly registered or illegitimate drugs.

They found three — Nattapong Clinic, Medical Clinic and Thepakorn Medical Clinic — had broken the laws.

The three establishments were found to have sold 20 unregistered drugs and unregistered or improperly registered cosmetics worth a combined 1 million baht.

The illegal drugs were mainly diet pills and skin-whitening substances containing oxybutynin, which poses risk for people with high blood pressure and heart disease.

The operators of the clinics were charged with selling unregistered drugs and selling cosmetic products without registration numbers or proper labels. The maximum penalty is a five-year jail term or a fine up to 100,000 baht, or both.
