Pairoj Sukchan, 51, was attacked in front of the premises of Bua Thong Property Co, located in three five-storey commercial buildings on Kanchanapisek Road in Bang Bua Thong district about 7pm on Wednesday, said police.

Mr Pairoj is a well-known provincial councillor for the district  and the husband of Buathip Sukchan, chairwoman of the Bangrak Pattana tambon administration organisation.

He was shot shortly after parking his car and walking toward the property firm’s offices. A motorcyclist wearing a crash helmet followed him, pulled out a pistol and fired  shots at him.

One bullet entered the back of Mr Pairoj’s skull, piercing his neck. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later declared out of danger.  The gunman fled on the motorcycle.

Some spent 11mm cartridges were found at the scene. The shooting also shattered the glass doors of the office.

Police were examining footage from security cameras hoping to find clues to the gunman's identity and possible accomplices.

Pol Col Natthapol  Sukrasee, deputy chief of Nonthaburi poice, said a personal dispute, love affair,  gambling or political conflict were all possible motives for the attack.
