Couple accused of child detention, rape

A young couple has been arrested for allegedly colluding in the unlawful detention of two underage siblings and the repeated rape of the young sister, Pathum Thani police said.

Natthapol Kangwanyothakul, 24, and his 18-year-old wife were apprehended at an apartment room in tambon Ban Chang in Pathum Thani’s Muang district on Wednesday evening, police said.

The couple allegedly invited a 13-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother to eat barbequed pork at a restaurant in the province.

The girl and her brother later ended up in a room where the girl was repeatedly raped by Mr Natthapol and another man, said Pol Col Wathon Amawattana, chief investigator at Muang district  police station.

The children later managed to escape and alerted their parents, who took them to file a complaint with police.

The children's parents had earlier lodged a complaint with police, reporting their children had been missing since Jan 9.

A search failed to locate the missing children, who returned to their home on the evening of Jan 12 and told their parents what happened to them, Pol Col Wathon said.

During questioning, Mr Natthapol and his wife denied all charges. They were detained at Muang district police station pending legal action.
