Pedestrian killed by car in Sattahip

A 47-year-old man died after being hit by a car allegedly driven by a British former doctor in Chon Buri province’s Sattahip district early Friday.

The body of Dul Sibpao, 47, was found dead on Sukhumvit Road's Sattahip-bound lane near kilometre marker 165 in tambon Bang Sarae just after midnight, Khaosod Online reported police as saying

Dul, a native of Udon Thani's Nong Wua So district, sustained a fractured skull. A blue Honda Jazz with a shattered windshield was found about 70 metres from his body.

The car's driver, identified as Andrew Mclaren, a 67-year-old Briton, was awaiting police at the scene.

Mr Mclaren, a former doctor, told police that he was driving his car from Pattaya to his house in the Buraran housing estate in Bang Sarae when the man suddenly ran across the road. He tried to brake, but was unable to avert the crash.

Pol Capt Pichitpong Yodpikul, of Sattahip police station, said the Dul's body would be sent to Sattahip Hospital for autopsy and his relatives would be contacted. Police would call witnesses and Mr Mclaren for questioning before deciding to press charges of reckless driving causing death.
