Fire ravages school in Phatthalung

A school building in Muang district of Phatthalung province was badly damaged by a fire early Monday morning, police said.

THe blaze began about 2am at Ban Sala Maiphai School in tambon Thakhae in a one-storey wooden building which is about 30 years old.

Three fire engines  and crews doused the flames in about 90 minutes, but by then six of the eight rooms in the building, catering for kindergarten and Prathom 1-3 pupils, were destroyed.

The fire destroyed teaching equipment, two computers and televisions used for the education via satellite programme.

Authorities were examining the scene to establish the cause of the fire, but initially believed it to be caused by an electrical short circuit.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.
