Boy felled by car door, hit by truck

A young boy forced onto a busy road by a pickup parked on the footpath was knocked down when the driver opened his door as he passed, and fell in front of an oncoming truck that ran over him.

The accident happened last Thursday on Rat Uthit road in Bangkok's Rama III district, and was caught on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

In the one-minute video, the boy (name withheld) wearing a Boy Scout uniform ios seen running on the road when he is struck by the opening door. He falls onto the road and his right leg is run over by both the front and back wheels of the passing truck.

The pickup truck driver and passers-by rushed to help the boy. He is now reported in a safe condition.

The video was posted on social media sites and sparked debate among internet users.

They questioned who was at fault, as the boy was running on the road while the pickup truck was partially parked on the footpath and blocking it to pedestrians.

The netizens also called on the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and police to take serious action against traffic violators.
