Four caught with 471 fake $100 notes

Four people were arrested and counterfeit US$100 banknotes with a face value of about 1.5 million baht seized in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district on Thursday.

The four, two men and two women, were caught at Tesco Lotus Lat Phrao branch with 471 fake $100 banknotes were found in their possession, Pol Col Akkradet Pimolsri, acting chief of the Crime Supression said on Thursday.

They were identified as Ms Phetsunee Opas-iemkhajorn, 42, Ms Wassana Temjai, 39, Pirutkorn Udomkit, 42, and Chadchai Panityamontri, 45.

The arrests followed a tip-off that a gang was trying to pass off forged US banknotes at shops in the Chatuchak area. 

The two male suspects confessed to the charges, but the two women denied any involvement. The four were held in police custody to face charges of possessing and using fake banknotes.
