A cat is to have gender reassignment surgery in Canada after an internet campaign raised the cash needed for the surgery.
The family who took the stray cat in got a surprise when they took it to the vet for a check-up in October, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp reported. The adrogynously named Mittens was found to have both male and female sex organs. Not only that, but both sets were in full working order.
Mittens' unusual attributes have caused complications for the cat, which suffers with urinary and bowel problems. The bill to reduce its number of genders to one will come to around US$1,500 (48,800 baht) and an online auction helped meet the cost.
Now Mittens must face the prospect of living its life as a male.
