PATTAYA — A Canadian man alarmed bystanders after slitting his wrist in front of his girlfriend after she declined to get back together with him.
Police and rescue workers received a report of a foreigner running amok with self-inflicted wounds in front of the Habibi phone shop in Soi Pattaya 16 in Bang Lamung district at 3am Saturday, Khao Sod Online reported.
They found the man bleeding heavily from a deep cut on his right wrist, which had caused panic among people nearby.
Police managed to subdue the 44-year-old man so that paramedics could perform first aid before taking him to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Police collected a pocket knife at the scene.
Police said the man had discovered his Uzbek girlfriend sitting with another man at a bar nearby and tried unsuccessfully to persuade her to continue their relationship. The Canadian then pulled out a pocket knife, slit his wrist and ran from the bar before bystanders alerted the police.
