Five-day holiday in May approved

The cabinet on Tuesday approved a Tourism and Sports Ministry proposal for May 4 to be declared an extra government holiday, to enable people to take a five-day break over the Labour Day-Coronation Day period.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said it was expected the long holiday, from May 1-5, would help spur the economy by 10% over that period.

May 1 is Labour Day and May 5 Coronation Day, while Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3 are ordinary days off.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha instructed that all tourist attractions and destinations be kept in good condition and ensure the safety of visitors, Mrs Kobkarn said.
