Three rice farmers fined over blockade

Ratchaburi provincial court yesterday ordered three rice farmers to pay a fine of 5,000 baht each for obstructing traffic in connection with last year’s rice farmer protest.

Prayong Khlaisiri, 48, Chokechai Katekaew, 44, and La-iad Toklueng, 47, all from Ratchaburi’s Pak Tho district, were found guilty of obstructing a public road during the rice farmer protest against the Yingluck administration during Feb 1-7 last year.

The three defendants were among dozens of rice farmers who blocked a section of Rama II Road at Wang Manao intersection in tambon Wang Manao of Pak Tho district.

The court ordered the defendants to pay a fine of 10,000 baht each but reduced the fine by half due to their confessions.
