Fake brand shoes seized on border

About 15,000 pairs of falsely brandnamed shoes, mainly trainers, boots and sandals, were seized from a warehouse at the Rong Kleua border market in Sa Keao province by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Wednesday.

Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, deputy director-general of the DSI, said a search of three locations resulted in the seizure of 14,968 pairs of footwear falsely brandnamed New Balance, Fitflop, Paul Frank and Havaianas. The seized shoes had an estimated market value of 40 million baht.

A Chinese man was arrested at a warehouse and had been charged with having counterfeit products for distribution in violation of the Trademark Act, he said.

He said the DSI had earlier raided a shop selling fake brandname watches in tambon Patong of Kratu district in Phuket and seized 3,572 items worth around five million baht. A Vietnamese man was arrested and charged with violating the Trademark Act.
