A Pakistani man arrested in Tak for allegedly enticing two underage Myanmar girls away from a market, promising them work at a factory in Bangkok, broke down in tears as he confessed his crime, Thairath online reported.
Zanar Ula, 41, a Pakistani national was arrested in Mae Sot district of Tak late on Thursday night.
His arrest followed a complaint filed by a Myanmar couple that their two daughters, aged 12 and 15, had gone missing from in front of Pacharoen market in Mae Sot municipality on Thursday night.
Mr Ula initially insisted he had no knowledge of the girls, but police were not convinced. Intense questioning, coupled with witnesses’ accounts, confirming that he was taking the girls into a black Toyota Vigo pickup truck, led to him making contradictory statements, police said.
He claimed someone else tried to lure the two girls away and he went to their rescue and took them to a resort room. He later led police to the resort hotel on Mae Sot-Rim Moei Road in tambon Tha Sailuad, about 2km from the market where the girls had been picked up.
Police found the two girls inside the room. The Pakistani was detained for further questioning.
He finally broke down in tears and apologised for his actions, but police put him in a cell anyway, the Thairath report said.
The girls told police that the man had tried several times to persuade them to go to work in Bangkok, where he claimed he had several factories. He finally convinced them to go with him about 9pm on Thursday for further talk about the work, and promised to return them to the market. Instead he took them to the resort hotel, the report said.
He faces charges of illegal detention of two minors.
