Aid fund to regain trust of tourists

The government has set up a 200-million-baht assistance fund to regain the trust of foreign tourists, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha says.

Speaking during his weekly televised address on Friday, Gen Prayut said the fund was established on Dec 19 last year.

Any tourist who travels to Thailand and is affected by violence, terrorism, natural disasters, accidents, transport delays, crime or any other threat which was not their fault will be eligible to receive aid from the fund.

The conditions of compensation have been set by the Comptroller-General’s Office.

Tourists can ask for assistance by contacting any provincial tourism and sports office and can reach the Tourist Police 24 hours a day on 1155.

The government must ask for cooperation from related organisations, whether they are tour companies, hotels, guesthouses, tour guides, taxi drivers or shopkeepers to be good hosts to foreign visitors, said Gen Prayut.

He also urged Thais to avoid taking advantage of foreign visitors.
