Top officer held for taking meth

A police colonel and son of a former Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner was arrested on Saturday while allegedly taking crystal meth in Bangkok’s Prawet district.

Pol Col Jakkrit Lemchaengphan, 48, deputy commander of the Office of Logistics, was found intoxicated in a room at the Rider Resort in Srinakarin Soi 49. Police seized four packs of crystal meth weighing 19g from the room.

Pol Col Jakkrit admitted to taking the meth but denied the drugs belonged to him, said Pol Lt Col Wanlop Na Nakorn, deputy chief of Prawet police station.

He was suspended from duty and remanded in custody at Phra Khanong district court.

The officer is the son of Pol Gen Chamlong Lemchaengphan, a former MPB commissioner and assistant national police chief. Pol Gen Chamlong also served as deputy public health minister under Thaksin Shinawatra.

The Rider Resort has been linked to criminal activity.

Last year, police and the military raided the hotel and found prostitution, drugs and records allegedly documenting bribe payments to state officials.
