New Myanmar bridge to boost trade

Construction of a new bridge across the Salween river has begun in Mae Jae border district of Myanmar, opposite Mae Hong Son province, and is expected to boost trade when completed, a Thai military official said.

Speaking upon his return from a visit to Myanmar last week, Col Jarus Panyadee, chief of the 7th Infantry Regiment task force of Mae Hong Son province, said Myanmar has allocated 200 million baht to build the bridge.

Although the bridge is inside Myanmar, it will facilitate  the transport of goods in the district, which links up with the Huay Ton Nun route in Mae Hong Son’s Khun Yuam district, he said.
