Thousands sign cyber bill petition

Almost 21,000 people have signed an online petition opposing new cyber-security laws in Thailand.

Sarinee Achavanuntakul, chairman of the Foundation for Internet and Civic Culture, and representatives from the Thai Netizen Network, a non-profit advocacy group promoting online privacy and internet freedom, submitted the petition to Chumpol Rodkhamdee, chairman of the National Reform Council's media and information technology-reform panel yesterday. They say 20,905 people signed the petition through the Change.org website.

Opponents say the 10 cyber-related bills, particularly cyber security ones, threaten people's privacy and rights.
