Yingluck assets grew by B11m in past year

Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra's assets increased by 11 million baht in the past year, while many leading Pheu Thai members of parliament saw their fortunes diminish.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) yesterday disclosed the asset records of 479 former MPs during Ms Yingluck's administration as part of the public disclosure procedure a year after the dissolution of parliament.

Yingluck: Richer than at House dissolution

When the ex-premier dissolved parliament on Dec 9, 2013, the net worth of her assets was put at 575,732,321 baht.

As of this year, Ms Yingluck's assets (excluding those of her spouse and child) are worth 617,320,127 baht, an increase of 11,025,098 baht.

However, a 30,562,708 baht debt gives her a net worth of 586,757,419 baht.

Overall, Ms Yingluck has gained 39,222,403 baht since she came into office in 2011. The assets of Ms Yingluck's spouse have also increased by 39,911,479 baht in the past year.

Meanwhile, many core Pheu Thai MPs reveal they are now worth less than a year ago.

Former deputy premier Chalerm Yubamrung declared 170,529,156 baht of assets and no debt — that is 7,680,702 baht less than when parliament was dissolved.

Records of Nattawut Saikuar, former deputy agriculture and cooperatives minister and a red-shirt leader, showed he possesses assets amounting to 32,435,662 baht, and 15,027,970 baht in debt.

The net worth of his assets is therefore 17,407,691, or 1,833,925 baht less than the amount he declared in December 2013 when he left his post in the government and parliament.

At the end of his term in office, he declared 19,241,616 baht more than when he was elected.

Former minister of commerce Boonsong Teriyapirom and former deputy minister of commerce Poom Sarapol also saw their assets fall in value in the past year.

Last month, both were indicted by the NACC for their involvement in a government-to-government rice sales deal, part of Ms Yingluck's rice-pledging scheme.

Mr Boonsong and his spouse declared 17,828,911 baht in assets and 242,582 baht in debt. Their total net worth is 17,586,329 baht, or 452,880 baht less than last year.

Mr Poom's records reveal that he has 39,377,047 baht and no debt. Last year, he disclosed assets worth 41,503,864 baht.

Democrat Party figures include former premier and party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, who declared 726,469 baht more than last year. Mr Abhisit and his spouse declared 55,022,675 baht of assets and no debt as opposed to 54,296,206 baht in December, 2013.

According to the NACC's records disclosed yesterday, the richest MP is Democrat MP Prakorb Jirakitti. Mr Prakorb declared 2,139,949,433 baht worth of assets and 1,306,641 in debt.

The second and third richest MPs are also Democrat Party representatives, Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich with 1,781,586,744 baht and Sopha Kanchana with 1,066,725,600 baht.
