Srirasm's kin accused of malice

A woman has lodged a police complaint accusing the parents of Thanpuying Srirasm Suwadee — formerly Princess Srirasm — of hiring others to file false statements to police, which resulted in her being sent to jail.

Sawita Maneechan, 31, from Ratchaburi's Wat Phleng district, yesterday lodged the complaint with the Crime Suppression Division in Bangkok against Wanthanee Suwadee, 66, and Apiruj Suwadee, 72.

Ms Sawita accuses the couple of lese majeste and of hiring others to file false statements to police to cause damage to others.

Ms Sawita told police that in 2003, when she was 20, her grandfather came to know Mr Apiruj.

She said Ms Wanthanee accused her of having an affair with her husband.

Ms Sawita denied the accusation, saying it was due to personal differences with Ms Wanthanee.

She claimed the couple used their influence to force her uncle, who was a police officer, to file a complaint against her with Ratchaburi police on fraud charges relating to money she had allegedly borrowed from him.

She had to admit to the offence, even though she was innocent, out of fear of threats from the couple, she said.

After the case was tried by Ratchaburi court on Dec 20, 2003, she was sentenced to two years in jail, she said.

The sentence was commuted to one year and six months.

After being released from jail, her family's life changed, she said. Her father's construction business was affected and her family had to move from Ratchaburi to Phetchaburi.

She said her reputation was ruined and applications for jobs were rejected. "I only want justice for my family. With my imprisonment record, no one wants to employ me," Ms Sawita said.

CSD acting chief Akaradet Phimonsri said yesterday officers are gathering evidence before considering whether to seek arrest warrants for the couple.
