B300m worth of pirated goods seized

Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police seized a large quantity of pirated goods worth about 300 million baht after a search of three trucks in Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Pol Col Akradej Pimolsri, the acting CSD commander, said at a press conference that the officers, led by Pol Col Polthin Chaiyarot, chief of the 3rd CSD sub-division, searched three trucks parked on a highway at Ban Nong Nguluam in Nakhon Ratchasima's Muang district following a tip-off.

Representatives of firms holding patent rights on various products took part in the search.

Found in the trucks were more than 44,000 pirated goods including handbags, women's shoes and various kinds of ornaments worth about 300 million baht.

The goods were brought across the border from Laos through the customs checkpoint of Nong Khai and were destined for a warehouse in Bangkok's Ratburana district.

The drivers of the three trucks carried documents showing that the goods were imported by CNB International (Thailand), but the police found them to be pirated goods in violation of the Trademark Act of 1992 and the Customs Act of 1926.

In a separate action, a team of CSD police on Saturday night raided a house in tambon Bung Kham Ploy in Lam Luk Ka district of Pathum Thani province after learning that fake CDs were produced there in violation of the intellectual property law.

They arrested Nathakorn Sathongyoi and six alien workers who were producing fake CDs and DVDs in the house and seized 90 CD writers, 5,300 pirated movie DVDs, 1,600 music CDs and 3,000 blank discs worth about 500,000 baht.
