Srirasm kin offer to meet police

The parents of Thanpuying Srirasm Suwadee — formerly Princess Sri-rasm — are due to report to police Monday on accusations they ordered others to file false statements to police, resulting in a Ratchaburi woman's imprisonment, Crime Suppression Division (CSD) acting chief Akaradej Pimonsri said Sunday.

The couple told police they will report at CSD headquarters Monday morning, Pol Col Akaradej said.

On Thursday, Sawita Maneechan, a 31-year-old employee of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, lodged a complaint with the CSD against Wanthanee Suwadee, 66, and Apiruj Suwadee, 72.

Ms Sawita accused the couple of lese majeste and of ordering others to file false statements to police, which caused damage to her.

She told police that in 2003, when she was 20, her grandfather struck up a friendship with Mr Apiruj.

Ms Wanthanee — Mr Apiruj's wife — later accused Ms Sawita of having an affair with her husband.

Ms Sawita said the accusation was false and stemmed from personal differences with Ms Wanthanee.

She claimed the couple used their influence to force her uncle, who was a police officer, to file a complaint against her with Ratchaburi police on fraud charges relating to money she had allegedly borrowed from him.

She had to admit to the offence, even though she was innocent, out of fear of threats from the couple, she said.

After the case was tried by Ratchaburi court, she was sentenced to two years in jail on Dec 20, 2003.

The sentence was commuted to one year and six months.
