Police seize knock-offs haul

Police seized tens of thousands of knock-off goods worth about 300 million baht after searching three trucks in Nakhon Ratchasima's Muang district on Saturday night.

After receiving a tip-off, police from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) searched the trucks, which were parked along a highway at Ban Nong Nguluam, said Pol Col Akaradej Pimonsri, the CSD acting commander.

Representatives of firms holding patent rights on various products took part in the search. They discovered more than 44,000 pirated goods, including handbags, women's shoes and various kinds of ornaments.

The goods were brought across the border from Laos through the Nong Khai customs checkpoint and were destined for a warehouse in Bangkok's Ratburana district.

The drivers of the trucks carried documents showing the goods were imported by CNB International (Thailand), but the police found them to be pirated, in violation of the Trademark Act of 1992 and the Customs Act of 1926.

Meanwhile, a team of CSD police on Saturday night raided a house in tambon Bung Kham Ploy in Lam Luk Ka district of Pathum Thani province after learning fake CDs were produced there.

They arrested Nathakorn Sathongyoi and six foreign workers and seized 90 CD writers, 5,300 pirated DVDs, 1,600 CDs and 3,000 blank discs worth about 500,000 baht.
