Cop faces probe in teen sex scandal

A Sai Mai policeman has been suspended from duty after trying to lure a university student to a motel, Royal Thai Police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said.

Pol Sen Sgt Maj Nimit Kaechaipoom, of Bangkok's Sai Mai district, was suspended pending an investigation for allegedly trying to trick a 19-year-old female student into having sex with him at a motel last Wednesday, he said.

A panel has been set up to investigate his conduct.

The suspension came after the student from a university on Ramkhamhaeng Road filed a petition on Saturday with the Paweena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women, saying Pol Sen Sgt Maj Nimit tried to take her to a motel on Sai Mai Soi 56 but she managed to escape.

The student said the incident began when she brought her friend, who lived in Sai Mai district and had a drug problem, to report to police last Wednesday so she could join a treatment programme.

While Pol Sen Sgt Maj Nimit recorded her statement, he asked for her mobile phone number. After she and her friend left, the officer called her, asking her to return to the station alone to correct some information.

After the corrections, the policeman offered her a ride home as it was late. The victim decided to go with him because she thought she was safe with police.

The officer later turned his car into a small soi and asked her to be his girlfriend. As she tried to leave the car, he turned his car into the motel. She opened the door but the officer grabbed her arm.

She finally broke free and exited the car with her shirt torn. As the officer chased her in his car, she managed to flee in a taxi. She later filed a complaint with Lat Phrao police station.

However, the student said a Sai Mai police investigator contacted her and invited her to the station where she was shown CCTV footage of Pol Sen Sgt Maj Nimit's Honda Civic turning into the motel and her running away.

The investigator claimed the motel owner was a policemen who could withhold this evidence from police.

She also alleged Pol Sen Sgt Maj Nimit's wife offered her 50,000 baht to not file any charges against her husband.
