Three young men, one underage, were arrested for allegedly stealing an automated-teller machine in Pathum Thani Monday, but failing to spend the cash before being caught hours later.

Police apprehended Danai Palakoon, 20, Wiwattana Saharat, 22, and a 16-year-old at a house near Wat Soi Thong in Bangkok's Bang Sue district Monday afternoon following a half-day search.

Provincial Police Region 1 commander Pol Lt Gen Amnuay Nimmano said police found in their possession an ATM belonging to Krungthai Bank with banknotes totalling 2.01 million baht inside and an assortment of equipment.

They also seized an Isuzu pickup truck and a Honda car allegedly used in the stealing of the ATM.

The three are accused of using cutting tools and other equipment to remove the ATM located from next to a restaurant on Liab Khlong 7 Road in tambon Lam Pakgood of Thanyaburi district. Pol Lt Gen Amnuay alleged the suspects put the cash machine onto the back of the pickup truck, covered it with sand bags and fled.

The suspects allegedly told police they had previously burgled two homes to try to pry open safes but this was their first time taking on an ATM.

Equipment seized from the three alleged ATM thieves.
