Govt to open two economic zones

The government hopes to open two special economic zones close to the border this year and will offer investors tax breaks and other incentives. The zones — set for Tak's Mae Sot district and Sa Kaeo's Aranyaprathet district — would be the first of six planned for border areas.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said the National Council for Peace and Order's strategy also calls for providing investors easy access to capital.

"Many investors have shown interest in putting money into the zones. We want to set up two this year — one in the West and the other in the East,'' Gen Prawit said. Incentives will include breaks on personal income tax and investment privileges, he said. The government plans to set up additional zones in Nong Khai, Trat, Mukdahan and Songkhla.
