Krit Buddeejin, a suspect in the dissemination of a false Royal Household Bureau statement on His Majesty the King's health, has been released on 400,000 baht bail, his lawyer Winyat Chartmontree said.

Mr Winyat said the Bangkok Military Court had approved a request for Mr Krit's release on bail.  The lawyer said he attached to the bail request a daily record dated Feb 10 by police investigators, saying that the police had no objection if Mr Krit was granted bail, and the court found it carried enough weight.

He placed 400,000 baht as security collateral.

According to the lawyer, the court did not impose any conditions, but the suspect is required to report to the court at the end of every 12-day detention period, the first one being Feb 20.  The court had not prohibited Mr Krit from travelling abroad or expressing political opinions, he added.

Mr Winyat said in fighting the case he would try to convince the court that his client had no intention of disseminating the false Royal Household Bureau statement.

Mr Krit has been charged with lese majeste under Section 112 and violating the Computer Crimes Act for posting the forged statement on social media.

He was arrested on Feb 3 at his home in Phetchabun’s Muang district for his alleged involvement in distributing the forged statement.

Mr Krit was identified by police as “among the first people” who shared it.
