After eight years of repeated jibes and insults from two colleagues, a 48-year-old motorcycle-taxi driver finally decided he could take it no more, so he went home, got his gun, returned and shot them both dead.

Sombat Chanthanothai, a native of tambon Bang Yapreak in Muang district, surrendered to police at 5pm on Tuesday to acknowledge charges of murder.

Mr Sombat, a motorcycle-taxi driver at Soi Thesaban Bang Yapreak 7, gunned down fellow drivers Kampol Prasart-thong, 59, and Narong Jitcharoen, 39, about 4.30pm on Tuesday, Thai media reported.

Kampol was hit twice in the right temple, and Narong was hit in his left temple.

Mr Sombat told police that after killing he fled, leaving his gun and a plastic bag containing bullets on a nearby modified motorcycle taxi. Four spent cartridges were found on the road near the scene.

Mr Sombat told police he had been subject to the two men's frequent sarcasm and insulting remarks for about eight years, and finally ran out of patience. Seething with anger, he went to his house to get his long-barrelled gun, which he had bought about 10 years ago for 9,000 baht, and went back and shot them.

He pleaded guilty to all charges and said he was ready to face punishment.

Police initially charged Sombat with murder and detained him at Samut Sakhon police station pending arraignment in court.
