PRACHIN BURI - A bus taking Thai tourists from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo for the Chinese New Year celebrations spun out of control and crashed, injuring 43 passengers, on Thursday.

The double decker owned by Orawan Irriyapongsa Co and driven by Assawin Nilrat was heading for the border town when it flipped onto its side at kilometre marker 46 on Road 359 in Kabin Buri district in Prachin Buri, according to Kabin Buri police.

They said 43 people were slightly hurt, with 27 sent for treatment at Kabin Buri hospital and another 16 to Sri Maha Phot hospital in Sri Maha Phot district.

The driver told police he was driving through heavy rain and lost control of the bus when he tried to steer the vehicle around pieces of a broken tyre and a wheel found on the road.

The passengers were on their way to go shopping at Rong Klua market opposite the border with Cambodia during a break for Chinese New Year.

Mr Assawin was charged with reckless driving.
