CHIANG MAI — A fourth-year law student was arrested for wearing a fake police uniform and deceiving people into giving him money, according to the Thailand Police Story Facebook page.

Police said that Chanathip Tachit, 20, deceived some people about his occupation when he offered to sell them a car, claiming the price was cheap because the car had been seized for drug-related offences. He told them to pay him 40,000 baht in advance and then went missing.

The law student was found in a condominium unit in Chiang Mai on Friday. Police found a police uniform, two firearms and a walkie-talkie. He was also tested positive for methamphetamine in a urine test.

"I really want to work as policeman. I took the police exams twice but failed. I decided to buy a fake police uniform and many people believed me," Mr Chanathip was quoted as saying by police.
