Highway police seized 300kg of compressed marijuana and a pick-up truck on the Mitrapap Highway in Nam Phong district of Khon Kaen province on Monday morning, Pol Col Sompol Issaraseree, commander of the 4th Highway Police Division, said at a press conference.
The marijuana was found about 9.30am in a pick-up truck that was stopped and abandoned about 50m from a highway police checkpoint between kilometre markers 360-361 in tambon Muang Wan of Nam Phong district.
The people onboard the vehicle made good their escape. Police examined the vehicle and eight sacks containing 300 bars of dried marijuana, weighing 300kg.
Also found in the vehicle were a passport and bank accounts of Anupan Jaiyai, 42, of Pathum Ratwongsa district of Amnat Charoen province, the owner of the pick-up truck.
