Police have begun patroling on mountain bikes in Phitsanulok town centre, in a move that both saves energy and makes it easier and quicker to get to crime scenes in the often crowded downtown area.

Pol Maj Gen Pisit Tanprasert, commander of Phitsanulok police, said the heavy traffic in the municipality often made it difficult for patrol cars to reach some spots in urgent situations.

He said four bicycles, sponsored by the private sector, were now bein gused the patrol downtow, b ut more will be deployed in  the future.

He said it also enables the police to become closer to the people, as the bicycle patrols can more easily get to essential locations such as gold shops and banks, and other  places inaccessible by car.

Pol Maj Gen Pisit said using the bicycles reduces fuel costs and is more environment friendly.
