Russian falls to death in Chiang Mai

A Russian national, Alexey Mikhaylov, 28, died in a fall from the eighth-floor condominium apartment where he lived with his family in downtown Chiang Mai on Thursday night.

Police said it was believed he committed suicide.

Mikhaylov and his family had been staying in the rented premises at Casa Condo on Chotana Road for several months.

His Russian wife said he had had suffered from stress caused by personal and visa extension problems, and depended on medication.

She and her six-year-old son returned to their room Thursday night and found his anxiety level had risen even further. He stood out on the balcony before jumping off it, the wife said.

Rescue workers rushed him to Nakornping Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, which included broken legs and ribs and bleeding in the brain, police said.
