Most people were satisfied with the National Council for Peace and Order's performance over the past nine months, even though the NCPO has yet to tackle bread-and-butter issues, according to the result of Suan Dusit Poll released on Friday.

The pollster said it recently surveyed 1,812 people nationwide to gauge people's opinions about the NCPO and its performance since the May 22 coup last year.

More than half of the respondents, 55.57%, said they were ‘’rather satisfied’’ with the NCPO’s work over the nine months, as it had set clear-cut policies to administer the country. They praised the council for l regulating society well, its swift action and decisiveness.

Some 29% of the respondents said they were ‘’very satisfied’’ with the NCPO as they found the council performed its duty honestly and had a strong determination to tackle the problems.

A small  3.86% were ‘’not satisfied at all’’, as the NCPO lacked outstanding achievements.

The survey found a large majority of people, 85.87%, agreed the NCPO had a strong determination to address problems plaguing the country. However, they felt bread-and-butter issues remained untackled.

Asked about the strengths of the NCPO, 34.53% praised its efforts to regulate society and crackdown on illicit drugs and influential figures, 33.93% gave the council thumbs up for its swift and clear measures to solve pressing problems, and 31.54% said the NCPO regularly kept people informed and abreast of its performance.

Asked about the obstacles still facing the NCPO, 61.21% of respondents said the economy had not yet improved and people were suffering from the high cost of living.  About 21% said national reconciliation had not been achieved and the rest said the NCPO had not taken drastic action to solve certain problems,  such as the recent bombing of a shopping mall in Bangkok and the soaring prices of goods.
