2 killed, 15 hurt in school van crash

An out-of-control pickup truck rammed into a school van in Suphan Buri’s Song Phi Nong district on Friday morning, killing two drivers instantly and injuring 15 students, four seriously.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified only as Jaed, and the van driver, identified as Chanin Wimonchart, 38, were killed in the accident on Bang Li-Nong Wanpriang Road in tambon Thung Khok at about 7.10am, said Pol Capt Chaiyaporn Pooljanthuek, a duty officer at Thung Khok police station in Song Phi Nong district.

When police arrived, they found the two dead victims still trapped in the wreckage of the badly damaged vehicles. Rescue workers retrieved their bodies.

Fifteen students, both girls and boys, sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Four were critically injured.

A police investigation found the van was carrying students from Song Phi Nong district to the Jian Hua School in Bang Len district of Nakhon Pathom when the pickup truck driver lost control and rammed it on a curve. Police were investigating.
