A 60-year-old Chinese man was found dead in a hotel room in Tak’s Mae Sot district on Wednesday morning.

The tourist's body was found in a room on the second floor of a four-storey hotel on Chidnawa Road in tambon Mae Sot, said Pol Lt Sittha Buasamlee, a duty officer at Mae Sot station.

The death was reported to police around 9am.

Police said there were no traces of a struggle in the room and no sign of violence on the body.

The 60-year-old Chinese national had checked in at the hotel on Tuesday evening and was due to check out on Wednesday. A hotel staffer knocked his door in the morning, but there was no response. The employee then used a pass key to enter the room and found the man dead on the floor.

Police suspected he suffered from a chronic illness and this coupled with the hot weather might have led to his sudden death.

His body was sent to Mae Sot Hospital for a post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
