Airports of Thailand (AoT) will build bicycle lanes at airports in Chiang Rai and Phuket, board chairman Prasong Phunthanet says.

Mr Prasong said a meeting on Wednesday decided that a bicycle route could be added to Mae Fah Luang international airport in Muang district in Chiang Rai.

Another lane for bikers to exercise would be built to link Phuket international airport to Sirinat National Park in Thalang district, he added.

However, the plans were not included in a statement released after the board meeting by the airport agency.

The meeting approved another plan to join Siam Commercial Bank in improving the 23.5 kilometre bicycle route circling Suvarnabhumi airport, the statement said.

AoT will improve the surface of the lanes for cyclists and the parking area, while SCB will be responsible for other facilities, including signs for bikers, toilets, security cameras and the lighting system, it added.

Mr Prasong said rental and repair shops will be built, adding the agency planned to allow cycling until 9pm instead of 6pm in the future.
