A woman was killed and a man injured after a boat capsized in a heavy storm in the Chao Phraya River in Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-in district on Sunday morning.

Udomsak Khaonuna, chief of the disaster prevention and mitigation office of Ayutthaya, said the incident occurred about 500 metres from Ko Kerd bridge across the Chao Phraya River in tambon Bang Kasan.

The boat that capsized and sank was hauling four other boats. Two passengers on the sunk boat went missing — Piyachat Yamboonmee, 45, and his wife Waraporn Chiamcharoenpornkul, 38.

Mr Piyachat was later rescued.  He was injured and admitted to hospital.

The rescuers recovered the body of Ms Waraporn several hours afterwards.

The sunk boat was hauling four empty boats, which were usually used for delivering cargo, from Samut Prakan to Pamok district of Ang Thong province when it was hit by the storm.
