Four Songkran revellers were killed and 13 others injured after their pickup truck skidded off the road and rammed a concrete pole in Surin province, police said.

The speeding four-door truck, carrying 17 Songkran celebrants, overtook other vehicles and lost control before hitting the roadside post at kilometre maker 5 on Hin Khon-Ban Khok Lao Road in Prasat district around 3pm Tuesday, police said.

The force of the impact threw all the passengers from the vehicle. Four, including two men ages 21 and 24, and two 14-year-old boys, were killed instantly. Thirteen others, including 10 young men and boys and three female teenagers, were injured and rushed to Prasat Hospital. Three were later discharged.

Police said all were Surin natives travelling to throw water at other people along roads during the Songkran festival.
