Noted football coach Attaphol 'Tak' dies at 52

Police United coach Attaphol "Tak" Buspakoom died early Thursday morning after battling a blood infection since last week.

He died about 5am Thursday at Rama 9 Hospital, according to a statement by the fan club of the Police United team expressing their condolences to the coach’s family.

Coach Tak, 52, was a well-known national footballer and once played with Pahang team in Malaysia. He retired from playing in 1998 and later coached several teams -- BEC Tero Sasana, Geylang United, Krung Thai Bank, Muang Thong United, Buriarm United, Bangkok Glass and, finally, Police United.

His glory time was when he led Muang Thong United to win the 2009 Thai Premier League championship and coach Tak won “coach of the year” in the Thai Premier League.

After moving to Buriram United, he led the team to win the 2011 Thai Premier League, 2011 Thai FA Cup and 2011 Thai League Cup.

Also in 1012, he led Buriram United to the 2012 AFC Champions League.
