School orders GPAs sewn on shirts

A high school in Ubon Ratchathani province has come up with a unique way to encourage students to "study harder", and fortunately for students with low grades it is not obligatory.

At Nayia Suksa Ratchamangkalapisek School, teachers have told students to have their latest grade point averages (GPAs) embroidered on the right chest of their shirts, below their names, according to the education website Dek-d.com.

A person said to be a teacher at the school, but whose name was not given, confirmed that the numbers stitched on the students' shirts in the photograph below are their GPAs.

"It's a school policy aimed to make students study harder. This is for students from grade 10 to 12, but we are not imposing it on everyone. It is up to the students," the teacher said.

Photos of students wearing GPA-embroidered shirts showing their GPAs have circulated online.

Most netizens who commented felt the strategy would not work, as it would put more pressure on the students and make them feel divided.
