Belgian man drowns off Hua Hin beach

An elderly Belgian drowned off a beach inside Suan Son Pradipat Army Rehabilitation and Recreation Centre in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Hua Hin resort town, police said.

The 70-year-old man drowned while swimming off Suan Son Pradipat beach, said Pol Lt Col Suranan Meephan, a duty officer at Hua Hin police station, who was alerted around 4.20pm on Friday.

Visitors swimming in the area and soldiers rushed to help him and pull his body ashore, said Theeraphat Akkhaphan, 18, who was swimming at the beach.

First aid was administered before he was sent to Hua Hin Hospital. However, the man died shortly later.

His wife Mettha Chonpratheep, 44, a Hua Hin resident, told police that she and her husband had lived at Bo Fai village in this resort town for five years. They went to the beach to take a rest before the tragedy.
