CHAI NAT - A 69-year-old health volunteer was found dead on Tuesday and police suspected she was another victim of hot weather.

Police and rescue workers found the body of Yukmui Tan in her tapioca plantation behind her house in Sankha Buri district after other vendors at a fresh market informed police her shop had been closed for two days.

Pol Lt Wichokchai La-onmai said she could have been dead for about 72 hours before the body was found.

With no signs of crime on her body, the officer on duty at Sankha Buri police station said she would be killed by heat stroke and nobody helped her as she was alone at the house.

Yukmui was a vendor at a market in the district and a health volunteer in her community.

Chai Nat is one of many provinces hit by high temperatures over the past several days. The maximum temperature in the province rose from 37 degree Celsius on Saturday to 40.2 on Monday, according to the Meteorological Department.

Sukhothai was the hottest province in the country on Monday with the temperature climbing to 43.1, the weather agency said.

Six people also died on Monday, four of them in Phrae province and one each in Ayutthaya and Suphan Buri, and police linked the deaths to the hot weather.

The Meteorological Department warned in March that temperatures during this dry season could match the record in Thailand of 44.5 in Uttaradit province in 1960.
