A new pharmacy graduate with no licence was arrested for illegally operating a beauty clinic and giving illegal botox injections and skin-whitening services in Pathum Thani on Tuesday afternoon.

A team of police from the Consumer Protection Division and health officials raided the Ploysamon Beauty & Spa at Muang Ek housing estate near Rangsit University in Muang district around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

This followed complaints that the clinic provided unlicensed services such as botox and filler injections.

The team seized many unregistered medicines, used and new needles and other items.

A woman, Ploysamon Panittraipop, 30, who claimed to be the owner of the clinic and who gave botox injections to customers was detained.

A preliminary investigation found the woman only recently graduated from the pharmacy faculty at a well-known university but did not have a licence to practice as a pharmacist, said Pol Col Paithoon Khumsraprom, deputy chief of the division.

Ms Ploysamon was charged with illegally operating the clinic, and performing cosmetic procedures and selling medications without a licence.

Pol Col Paithoon said the clinic had provided skin-whitening services at cheap rates that attracted many customers. However, many customers complained the procedures had failed to whiten their skin as promised.

The clinic had also sold its unregistered products online, which drew attention and led to the police raid on the premises.

He warned consumers not to get botox injections at illegal clinics as they could end up being treated with sub-standard or illegal products that could be harmful.
