THAI's new board leaked

A Thai Airways International (THAI) source has leaked the names of the carrier's new board members.

The source said the new board comprises Areepong Bhoocha-Oom, Energy Ministry permanent secretary; Pakdee Saeng-Xuto, deputy chief of the Principal Private Secretary of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn; ML Suprija Kamalasana; Charamporn Jotikasthira, THAI's president; and Damri Tunshevavong, a board member of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority.

As for the plan to cut back on routes proposed by Bain & Co, hired by THAI to oversee the airline's rehabilitation plan, several committees disagreed with the proposal, believing the routes were still profitable, the source said.

The panels said many rival airlines could still profit from the routes that Bain & Co said should be scrapped, adding that the consultancy's analysis did not match the causes of the company's losses.

Damrong Waiyakanee, president of THAI's labour union, said the firm's losses were partly due to hiring consultancy firms.

He said Bain & Co implemented a 40-million-baht overhaul plan for THAI but this had not put it back in the black.

Transport Minister Prajin Juntong also remarked on the concerns of former executives and shareholders over the hiring of consultancy firms LEK and Bain & Co.

Previously, an executive of Bain was found to have also worked for LEK and Temasek Holdings. Temasek owns Singapore Airlines.

ACM Prajin said he could not intervene in the matter as it was THAI's internal affair.
