Man arrested throwing bricks at cars

A man was arrested for throwing bricks that damaged six vehicles travelling near Taksin bridge in Bangkok’s Thon Buri area early on Monday morning.

Sam Rae police received complaints around 2am Monday from motorists who said their vehicles'  windshields had been shattered by bricks thrown by someone as they turned off Taksin bridge into the Thon Buri area.

The police sent to the scene found the bricks and bits of shattered windshields on the street.

A search of the area found a man later identified as Nitipong Chaisaram, 26, lying down near the bridge with several bricks around him. The police tried to arrest the man but were initially deterred when he produced a short knife.

Finally, he was arrested and questioned, but police said he was incoherent and believed he was high from sniffing glue.

He is accused of damaging a total of six cars -- five taxis and a BMW.

Taxi driver Sirichai Putisotayo, 48, whose vehicle was damaged, said he was taking two foreigners to a hotel. On exiting Taksin bridge he took the left lane for Charoen Nakhon road and something struck his front window with a loud noise.

Mr Sirichai said he started to  brake but his passengers suggested he continue on. He finally pulled over about 300 metres up the road and inspected his car. There was a big crack in the windshield. After delivering his passengers he reported the incident to Sam Rae police station.

The accused brick thrower has been charged with causing damage to other people’s property and carrying a knife in public without proper reason.
