CHIANG MAI - A woman who wrote rude words about a police officer on her Facebook page has made an apology, but it might not be enough to save her from a severe slap on the wrist.

Prapanchai Jinapun, 19, decided to meet Muang police station chief Weerayuth Prasopchokchai on Wednesday to confess to posting a message on the social media under the account Fb'Bee Beizz.

The posting came after police officer Pongphan Srithupthim stopped a car at a checkpoint in Muang district at 3am on Sunday in which Ms Prapanchai was a passenger. He found the driver, Wisit Thongngam, 22, had an alcohol level over the legal limit.

Mr Wisit was charged with drink-driving.

Ms Prapanchai became angry and aired her feelings on the Facebook account, calling the officer a ''buffalo'' and said the police lance corporal lived on money from taxpayers.

After seeing the message, Pol L/C Pongphan decided to register a complaint at the police station to seek action for defaming authorities on duty.

Pol Col Weerayuth took Ms Prapanchai to apologise to Pol L/C Pongphan, who accepted the sentiment, but said this was a criminal case which could not be compromised.

Her confession means police will forward the charges to public prosecutors on Thursday.

It was not clear when she posted the message but a later message posted at the police station on Wednesday read: "I came here to admit guilty and won't do it again."
