National police chief Somyot Pumpunmuang has signed an order to transfer 14 more police officers stationed in the South to inactive posts for negligence of duty and suspected links to human trafficking gangs.
The order, which will take effect on Monday, transfers the 14 officers from Ranong, Phangnga and Satun to the Royal Thai Police Operations Centre where they are to remain until further notice.
The officers’ ranks range from superintendent to squad leader. Among them are four police colonels, while three are chiefs of police stations in Ranong and another in Phangnga.
An investigation will be launched to see if they played a role in the Rohingya trafficking ring and the discovery of mass graves at illegal Rohingya detention camps in Songkhla and Phangnga.
More than 50 police officers working in the South have already been transferred to inactive posts since the discovery of a mass grave site in tambon Padang Besar in Songkhla's Sadao district on May 1.
