Blaze damages Naval Dockyard in Bangkok

Fire destroyed a warehouse at the Naval Dockyard on Arun Amarin Road in Bangkok on Tuesday morning. There were no injuries.

The blaze began about 10.45am at the warehouse, which stored parts and materials for patrol boat construction, including electric wiring, aluminum frames and cylinders of welding gas. The building was totally destroyed. Many vehicles parked nearby were also damaged.

The dockyard is near the Chao Phraya River in Siriraj sub-district of Bangkok Noi disrtrict. The thick billowing smoke from the burning warehouse could be seen from some distance.

At least 10 fire engines and crews were sent to the scene and had the flames under control within  about 30 minutes.

Navy chief Adm Kraisorn Jansuwanit said a gas cylinder exploded and caused the fire.

Later Rear Adm Kan Dee-ubon, secretary to the navy, said a short circuit at an area where paints were stored caused the blaze and materials for boat construction were slightly damaged.
