Australian survives shotgun attack

SURAT THANI - Police have not been able to pinpoint the shooters or the reasons for an attack on an Australian man in this southern province on Thursday.

Edward Woodward was hit twice by shotgun blasts in Muang district as he was driving his car from his home into town for business.

The shooters who were on a motorcycle followed and fired at him, wounding him in both arms, Wisut Poopunsri, chief of Surat Thani police station said.

The 64-year-old Australian, who lives in the district with a Thai woman, was slightly injured and sent to a hospital, he added.

Pol Col Wisut said police did not know how many people were involved in the shooting and were trying to identify a motive.
