Security guard filmed breaking into luxury condo unit

A security guard has been caught on video using a lost keycard in the early hours to break into a unit in a luxury condomonium building in Bangkok he was supposed to be protecting.

Facebook user Nina Jariyasakdipong posted the video clip, showing a security guard unlocking her condominium unit door and later leaving the room at the high-priced The Address Asoke condominium about 5am on Wednesday.

Ms Nina said she was alone in the room on the 42nd floor and was awoken by a sound, and was startled to see a man in a security guard's uniform walking around in her unit.

She used the bed lamp to defend herself and managed to escape into the hallway and call for help, but there was no response.

She fled down to the lobby to seek assistance from another security guard, but he refused to go up to check the room, saying he could not leave his post.

Ms Nina said she then rushed to the security camera monitoring room and found the chief of security and the condo’s technician and watched the video of the incident.(continues below video)

Ms Nina ended her post by questioning the safety of one of the leading condominium buildings in Thailand.

Her brother later posted more details on popular Pantip webboard saying that the family paid 10 million baht for the condominium unit, believing they could have confidence in its safety and its location, and expected the developer, listed property firm AP (Thailand) Plc, or APThai, to accept responsibility for the incident.

APThai later responded to the Pantip topic, saying the company had already transferred the building and common areas to the condominium’s juristic entity and joint owners, which jointly chose M Management to look after the safety of the residents.

The company said the incident was a problem for the building management to handle, and suggested the uni'st owner file a complaint with the condominium’s juristic body. The information could be used for the future hiring of a security company. APThai said it had coordinated with the juristic entity to report the incident to the police, who later arrested the intruder.

Ms Nina’s brother posted that the condominium’s management had called a meeting with his family and the alleged intruder. The security guard claimed he went to the toilet and saw a keycard used by the maids that allowed access to all floors. He used the card as he want to borrow money from his friend in room 458 on the 42nd floor.

Ms Nina’s brother said that the room 458 was actually on the 36th floor, while the room he entered was actually 557.

An examination of the keycard revealed it had been reported missing after it was given to the condominium's technician during repairs to the unit. The card has been deactivated since Wednesday morning's incident.

The victim’s brother, who lives in the same condominium but was not there at the time, said he accepted that security checks on outside visitors were tight, but had questions about the inside guards and expressed concern about the future safety of his family members.

The security firm G4S on Thursday issued a statement informing residents of The Address Asoke that its former employee Nuttawut Phongmuangpak was a dangerous person wanted under an arrest warrant.

Mr Nuttawut turned himself in on Friday morning. He told the police he had an appointment with a unit owner about 4am that day. He could not remember the room number and accidentally entered the woman's room, which was not locked. He insisted that he had no bad intentions.

Police said they will continue the investigation, and confirmed he had been charged with intruding on private property at night.
